The childcare rooms have flexible routines, which allow the staff to meet the child or baby’s individual needs.  Resources are accessible to children so they have the choice in what they would like to do. Low-level shelving also allows resources to be displayed within reach so children learn individually and with others through play.

Some activities have more staff input e.g.  Messy play activities. Our staff ratio in the baby’s room is one to three babies. Staff spend time with each child responding to the child’s different needs in a sensitive and caring way. They offer play opportunities, resources and interactions indoors and outdoors at an appropriate level for individual children and small groups of children.

How will you help my child settle in?

We value the need for children to have the time to settle into their room in a way in which they and their parents feel comfortable; we will support both the parents and the baby or child to settle in within a timescale agreed with parents and your child’s key worker.

We also offer home visits prior to coming in. Once your baby or child starts nursery we know this can be an anxious time for you both so to help your child we suggest that you try not to show your anxiety as children are sensitive to their parent’s reactions. We also suggest that when you arrive to pick up your child you greet your child first and speak to staff once your child is comfortable.

You are invited to call us during the day so that you can be reassured as to how your child’s has settled.

  • OFSTED said’ Children are  greeted on arrival by warm, affectionate staff who ensure children feel secure and confident in the setting’

What do I need to bring to nursery?

We will also ask you to bring nappies, wipes and cream for nappy rash. Your child will also need a change of clothing. Sunscreen and sunhats during the summer months. Special toy or comforter if needed.

What will my child learn at nursery?

We offer our children a play-based curriculum, which meets all the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and supports all aspects of their learning and development. It supports their inbuilt curiosity and desire to make sense of the world around them and helps them to discover that learning is interesting and fun. This is so important if children are going to remain keen learners for the rest of their lives.

Within our nursery we follow statutory guidance called the Early Years Foundation Stage which ensures that all of your child’s areas of development are identified, monitored and planned for. You child’s key worker with the support of a senior leader will be responsible for identifying, recording, monitoring and planning for your child’s areas of development. Information is recorded in a profile called – My Learning Journey.

We believe that parents are the primary educators of their children and should be centrally involved in their child's experiences and development so we very much want to share your child’s learning with you. The Learning Journey’s are there for you to read and add in your child’s home experiences.

On collecting your child you’ll be given a Handover sheet which details your child’s personal care and experiences on a daily basis.

What if my child is ill?

If your child is ill please keep them at home.If you are not sure when to bring your child back into nursery speak to the Coordinator or Deputy for advice. We also have a list of infectious diseases to help you identify some of the possible illnesses your child may get and how to manage them.  See sickness and infectious diseases policy (available on request)

When a child has been ill and is now well but needs to finish off Antibiotics we will, at the Coordinator and Deputy’s discretion allow the child back into the setting and administer any outstanding Antibiotics. See administration of medicine policy (available on request)

What happens when my child moves rooms?

Babies move rooms at around 18mths depending on individual needs and development.  We do this in a way that supports both child and parent in feeling comfortable. Toddlers are gradually introduced into the new room and you’ll be invited to meet the team of staff in the new room. We will support both the parents and the child to settle in within a timescale agreed with the parents and your child’s key worker.

What will my child eat and drink at nursery?

We advice parents not to bring in drinks, we will provide water and milk once weaned. We do not offer juice within nursery because it has links with tooth decay also children become very reluctant to drink water.

Once your baby is ready to eat solid foods we will support you and your baby through the weaning process. We provide food which reflects your baby’s dietary needs, such as Halal, Vegetarian or Traditional. If your child has a medical dietary need this will do our best to accommodate this.

As well a breakfast, lunch and tea we also provide a light health snack. All meals provided are nutritionally balanced. Menus are rotated three weekly and new menus provided every term. They are displayed outside the Butterfly Room.

What should my child wear for nursery?

We encourage children to explore their environment to the full and so provide protective clothing (aprons and wet suits when needed). At times children may still get messy or get paint on their clothes. For this reason we ask you to bring your child in clothes that you do not mind getting dirty. We also ask you to bring a change of clothes for your child. When dressing your child please bear in mind the weather conditions and dress them accordingly.
